When and why did you start training for fighting? After high school I coached a high school wrestling team in Ohio and then I went down to Louisiana for vacation and I wound up staying there for a while. I just missed competition, and I wanted to compete, so this was an easy thing to get into.

What ranks and titles have you held? Brown belt under Pat Miletich, Blue belt in jiu-jitsu under Carlson Gracie Jr., All-State wrestler in high school.

Do you have any heroes? My wife. She gave me a son, and it’s amazing.

What is your favorite technique? Left hook. I like to stand, and I’ve also take a liking to elbows lately.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? I know everybody says it, but other than a dream come true, it’s vindication.

What was your job before you started fighting? Maintenance and welding
