Biographie
TRAINING: Every day is different. I work with Howard Davis Jr., "Benkei" (The strength and conditioning coach), and more and more with Mohamed Ouali. I spar quite a bit as well, as the sparring here in Florida is great, there are so many tough guys, they're falling off the trees here. I split my training camp between Vancouver and Fort Lauderdale. I focus more on jiu-jitsu and wrestling back home with Colin Daynes, Nick Oguallah, and Bibiano Fernandes, and I focus more on Boxing, Thai Boxing and Conditioning down here in Florida.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I had a pretty violent upbringing and childhood, and fighting is something I’ve always been good at naturally. And I’ll do just about anything to escape a regular 9 to 5 job. I started training Gracie Jiu-Jitsu at the Gracie Academy in 1994 in Torrance, California. I did that on and off for five or six years, and eventually I started training myself in Vancouver. Then I was lucky enough to hook up with a guy that was on the Canadian Olympic team in 1996 for Greco-Roman wrestling, Colin Daynes, and another excellent fighter, Kultar Gill. We formed a little fight team and we train together.
What ranks and titles have you held? Light Heavyweight NHB champion of British Columbia, second ranked middleweight in Canada.
Do you have any heroes? Noam Chomsky and Bertrand Russell.
What is your favorite technique? Rear Naked Choke
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s an honor and pleasure to fight in the UFC – I’m looking forward to it.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No
What was your job before you started fighting? I had hundreds of jobs. I worked in the steel industry, I installed sprinkler systems, I worked at a racetrack as a security supervisor, and I did landscaping. I did just about anything I could find. I would work a job for three months and move along.
