TRAINING: Morning MMA (Jiu-jitsu, wrestling, striking). Afternoon bodybuilding and bag work. Night time Cardio. About 5 to 6 hours total.
When and why did you start training for fighting? I was six. I wrestled all thru school and took up Kenpo and Sambo when I was 16. Started training Muay Thai and Jiu-jitsu when I was 19 and decided I wanted to fight then. I was fascinated with the physical ability of true Martial Artists and wanted to possess the knowledge and mental attitude they had. Honor and discipline had a lot to with my decision to be a fighter as well.
What ranks and titles have you held? I am the current light heavyweight world champion in the "Ring of Combat" (174.9lbs). I am a 2 time European Muay Thai Champion, Draka World Champion and hold black belts in Sambo and Kenpo. I was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2006.
Do you have any heroes? My mom and Superman
What is your favorite technique? I have two - "Leaping Spider" and "Bull Horn". They’re traditional Muay-Thai techniques. One is a Jumping elbow where you land the spike of the elbow on top of your opponents head from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock (illegal in MMA), the other is a lunge-knee to your opponents sternum from the Clinch.
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? Everything. I have trained for the last 14 years in hopes of making it here. I saw my first UFC before it had weight classes in 1993 and ever since then it has been my dream. I have waited a long time, and never gave up on that one dream, that one goal. For all you guys out there: Never quit, never give up on your dreams!!
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No time for college, only work and training.
What was your job before you started fighting? I've been running fine dining restaurants for 12 years now. Still is my job. Fighting doesn't pay that good.....Yet!
