Training Style
"I’m training harder but more importantly, I’m training smarter. You learn from your mistakes and learn how to train better every time. I’m working more on my boxing. I still work on my submissions obviously."Pete trains out of Ken Shamrock’s famous Lion’s Den, which has produced fighters like Frank Shamrock, Jerry Bohlander, Mikey Burnette, Guy Mezger, Tra Telligman, Vernon White and others.
UFC History
Pete made his debut at UFC 17 "Redemption", where he knocked out former UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Coleman with a kick to the face at :38 seconds into overtime. At Ultimate Brazil Pete lost a very close split decision to former training partner and friend Tsuyoshi Kosaka. At UFC 19 "Ultimate Young Guns" Pete took on Jason Godsey. This fight was not to last long, with both men coming out with a quick tie-up to start the action off. Godsey threw a leg kick with Williams answering with a punch to the face. Godsey, in what can be best described as an attempted flurry of punches, chased Williams, who in turn took Godsey down. Williams was able to secure a knee bar for the victory in less than two minutes.
At UFC 20 Pete Williams defeated Travis Fulton in 6:28 by armbar. Pete was wary of Fulton’s right hand early in the fight. Pete tried for a heel hook that Fulton thwarted. Later in the fight Fulton left his arm extended in Pete’s guard and Pete took advantage securing an armlock and ending the match.
At UFC 23 on November 14, 1999, Pete lost to Kevin Randleman by unanimous decision in a match to fill the vacant UFC heavyweight title. "I got off track. I got way too complacent sitting in the guard after the first round. I didn’t have any offense. I got deflated a bit after the first round."
UFC 31 - Petey lost by referee stoppage 1:28 in of Round 2
UFC 34: High Voltage - Pete lost to Ricco Rodriguez by TKO (ref stoppage from strikes) at 4:02 of round 2.
UFC 36: Worlds Collide - Pete Losses to Frank Mir by WSub 1 (modified kimura - 0:46)
More Information
Pete and Jerry Bohlander were on the same high school wrestling team and Pete started training at the Lion’s Den about a month after Jerry did. There is a strong bond between the two. Pete was the runner up in the 1996 Pancrase Neo Blood Tournament and has competed in the RINGS organization in Japan, Superbrawl, and King Of The Cage. Pete’s favorite submission hold is the kneebar.
"I like the UFC. I like the exposure in America. I’m happy to be back especially now because it looks like the show is really going to take off."
