Phillip MillerUFC HistoryUFC40: Vendetta: (11/22/02) In the action fight of the night, MMA 14-0 Californian Phillip Miller took on 17-0 Brit Mark “The Wizard” Weir in a middleweight battle and managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. The majority of the shifting momentum belonged to the kick boxer Weir, who staggered Miller on a couple occasions. He landed a plethora of strong punches and kicks through most of the fight, including a left roundhouse that came within a heartbeat of knocking Miller out. Suddenly, at 4:50 of the second, with Miller all but exhausted, a mistake by Weir led to a startling rear-naked choke. With every ounce of strength he had left, Miller sunk the choke in and finally elicited a tap from the now once-beaten Englander. Post fight, and still huffing for air, Miller summed up his shock win by saying, “It’s hard for them to keep up with me on the ground. I just keep going ‘til they die.” UFC 38: Brawl at Royal Albert Hall (7/13/02) The pace of the evening really started to cook when newcomers Phillip Miller and James Zikic squared off in the third bout. In a seesaw battle for domination, Miller showed an aptitude for "ground and pound" warfare while former amateur boxer Zikic got off some impressive punches as he fought "tooth and nail" to keep the match standing. However, Miller imposed his will frequently on the Londoner, gaining crucial points in the first and second rounds. By the third round, the two men were duking it out on "empty," having depleted all reserves from their body. Miller was awarded the unanimous decision.
