TRAINING: Hard work in all aspects of MMA
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training around 2005 or so. I started just to get in shape and it turned out that I had a knack for it.
What ranks and titles have you held? In 2006 I won my first IKF kickboxing tournament. Then I was ranked number one amateur kickboxer for about a year or so. In 2008, I won the St. Louis Golden Gloves tournament twice, in two different divisions, and two different weight classes. I also earned the outstanding boxer award that year.
Do you have any heroes? My hero is my Dad. He is successful, and did it all on his own!
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? To fight in the UFC means that I have an opportunity to fulfill my dream and to make my family proud of me. It also means that I have made it; fighting in the UFC completes every goal I have set out to do!
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I went to Vatterott College, where I earned my associates degree.
What was your job before you started fighting? I work for my family here in St. Louis. We have a heating and cooling company and my dad started it about thirty years ago. I'd like to help keep that legacy going.
Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? In amateur competition I have accumulated around a hundred fights, only losing four of them.
Favorite grappling technique: I have to say it would be an anaconda choke. It just looks cool to do!
Favorite Striking technique: Definitely not a spinning back kick!!!
