Biographie

TRAINING: A typical training day for me would be double sessions, usually six days a week, with strength and conditioning three days a week in the mornings. Other than that, I am doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, MMA, wrestling, etc. each day.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I worked at a passport center doing monotonous work and I wanted to do something exciting, so I found martial arts about 10 years ago.

What ranks and titles have you held? BJJ black belt, NEF lightweight champion

Do you have any heroes? In MMA, Carlos Condit.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means a lot. It's an accumulation of a lot of hard work. A lot of years of double training sessions and sacrificing time with family and it's great to finally see it pay off. It's nice to be able to show the world everything that I have been working so hard for the past several years.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I went for one year, but realized it was not something that I cared to pursue.

What was your job before you started fighting? I worked at the national passport center for seven and a half years, the entire time I have been training, and I was finally able to open my own academy about three years ago and train full time. I am also the head BJJ instructor for St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, MA.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? I was the No. 1-ranked 155er in the northeast before going pro. I won Submission and Knockout of the Night awards as well.

Favorite grappling technique: Rock bottom

Favorite Striking technique: Ultimate punch

  • Pro since 2012
  • Three wins by KO, three by submission (RNC, guillotine, triangle)
  • Six first round finishes
  • Has won seven of his last nine
  • Discovered on “Dana White: Lookin’ for a Fight” show
