Biographie

TRAINING: I have been training typically 2-3 times a day.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started in 2008. I was 28 years old. First gym I went to was a Chute Boxe gym called PTC (Piccinini Training Center) in Downtown LA. I started doing kickboxing just to get back in shape. But shortly after I was approached by the head coach and soon began training MMA. Shortly after I moved to Albuquerque, and trained at Jackson / Winkeljohn's for four and a half years before moving to Las Vegas.

What ranks and titles have you held? I am a purple belt in BJJ under Diego Brandao. I got KO of the Year in 2011.

Do you have any heroes? My dad is my hero. He was a high school dropout, and served two tours in Vietnam as a point man in the Marines. He came back and went to college and on to Medical school to become an E.R. doctor. He has conquered some amazing life challenges and continues to beat the odds every day. He is present in my corner for every fight.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means the world. Since I was a kid I always wanted to be a professional athlete. My dad and grandma used to tell me bedtime stories about being in the Olympics and playing at the highest level of whatever sport I happened to be playing at that time. This is such a dream come true. Being able to solely focus on fighting and getting the opportunity to perform at the highest stage in MMA is surreal. I am extremely grateful and I show it by my dedication, sacrifice and work ethic. I love fighting and wouldn't want to be doing anything else in my life.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I have a BA in Theatre Arts from Cal State Northridge.

What was your job before you started fighting? I was a full-time professional photographer. I have worked shooting all kinds of things, people, places, events, sports and landscapes. I enjoy shooting portraits the best. I feel that my background in theatre helps me to direct people to be themselves and allows me to capture them naturally.

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? I had one boxing and one kickboxing amateur fight. I won both of them.
